EclipseCon 2021, our biggest event of the year, will be held October 25-28. It will be online and it’s free.
Follow @eclipsecon for the latest news and announcements about the leading conference for developers, architects, and open source business leaders who want to learn more about Eclipse Foundation technologies, share best practices, and more.
New Communication Channel Guidelines Introduced
As the Eclipse Foundation community grows, we continue to leverage additional communication channels to share ideas and information. To ensure communications on those channels are consistent with the Eclipse Foundation Code of Conduct, we have introduced new Communication Channel Guidelines.
The Communication Channel Guidelines and the Code of Conduct are posted on the Eclipse Foundation Governance page, and will also be posted on all communication channels. We encourage you to make sure all of your teams are aware of these new guidelines.
We hope this is useful to everyone in the community, and we thank everyone for participating in a positive and welcoming way.
Membership Migration Process Continues
We continue our efforts to migrate Eclipse Foundation memberships to the new Belgian-based international not-for-profit association, Eclipse Foundation AISBL. As a reminder, details about this initiative are available here.
Approximately 60 members have now completed the process. We have now engaged with all Contributing members, and look forward to having the remaining Contributing members complete the process in the coming few weeks.
We will begin the process of engaging with Associate members next. This will begin over the next month.
There’s still time to make your mark on the 2021 Jakarta EE Developer Survey. The deadline has been extended until May 31 and it takes less than eight minutes to complete the survey.
The Jakarta EE Developer Survey is one of the Java industry’s largest developer surveys. The survey results could influence your next Java development decisions.
The survey is also a great opportunity to let the Jakarta EE community know your top priorities for Jakarta EE evolution. The community needs this insight to make informed decisions that align as closely as possible with the requirements of developers around the world.
Entrepreneurial Open Source Podcast Launched
We have just launched the first episode of the Entrepreneurial Open Source Podcast. This podcast series features successful entrepreneurs and innovators from around the globe, sharing practical lessons from their experience building businesses through open source participation and leadership. The podcast is hosted by Eclipse Foundation team members Gaël Blondelle and Thabang Mashologu.
Our first episode features Don Pearson from Inductive Automation and we have four additional episodes in the works, featuring:
This month the European Commission launched its new research program Horizon Europe, whose slogan is “Investing to Shape Our Future.” The program is structured to tackle climate change, contribute to the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals, and boost the EU’s competitiveness and growth.
Since 2013, the Eclipse Foundation, through its German subsidiary, has been collaborating with organizations as a partner in research projects to help them implement open source best practices and build communities for the sustainability of their results.
If you think that the best way to “shape the future” is to build it on the values of open source software — transparency, openness, meritocracy — then let’s do it together! Reach out to us at research@eclipse.org.
Eclipse ioFog 2.0 Takes Us to the Next Era of EdgeOps
On May 11, the Eclipse ioFog project team announced the release of Eclipse ioFog 2.0. This great achievement was driven by the project team and the Edge Native Working Group.
The ioFog platform brings cloud native architectures such as Kubernetes to the edge, allowing developers to deploy, orchestrate, and manage microservices on any edge device.
Two New White Papers Released
From DevOps to EdgeOps: A Vision for Edge Computing
We’re excited to share our approach to edge computing in our new white paper, written by experienced industry professionals from organizations such as Eurotech, Edgeworx, and ADLINK Technology.
This white paper explores how organizations are capitalizing on the promise of edge computing with platforms built for the edge, and the role open source foundations play in the greater edge computing ecosystem.
Why Jakarta EE Is the Right Choice for Today's Java Applications
Over the past year, we spoke to leading Java developers around the world to discuss why they rely on Jakarta EE and the unique benefits of using Jakarta EE technologies. Their input is captured in our white paper, which describes the important advantages Jakarta EE offers today and for the future.
